Reynolds powerful offense too much for Huskies

AURORA, Ore. - The game's scoring was stagnant in the opening innings, but the Reynolds Raiders bats lit up in the third inning and stayed hot for the remainder of the game to blow out the Huskies 12-1 Friday afternoon at Bob Brack Stadium.

Spencer Beachy, who started on the hill for the Huskies, sat down six of the first seven batters he faced. However, he met adversity in the third inning when the Huskies defense struggled with a couple errors, keeping the bases constantly filled. In that third inning, Reynolds scored all three of their runs with two outs.

North Marion scored their lone run of the ball game in the third inning. It got off to a good start as Senior third baseman Brandon Royal led off the frame with a single to shallow center. Sophomore Brock Breshears was walked, and Sophomore Kyle Williamson got a base hit to load the bases. Senior Brandan Hopper stepped in and drew a walk, scoring Royal.

Following their three-run third inning, Reynolds continued their hot offensive streak with five runs off five hits in the fourth, three runs off five hits in the sixth, and an additional run off one hit in the seventh. The Raiders ended the night with totals of 12 runs and 15 hits.

The Huskies looked to have a potential to get something going in the fourth when Junior Wyatt Moore led off the inning with a double. Other notable offense for North Marion came from Breshears, who singled to shortstop in the fifth and singled to right-center in the seventh. Despite the lack of hits, the Huskies continued to put the ball in play as they only struck out once as a team.

North Marion continued to test drive different arms throughout this game, as they used three innings from Beachy, two from Freshman Jordan Kendall, and two from Moore. Beachy looked the most dominate for the Huskies, as in his three innings of work, he allowed just three hits, three runs, and a single walk. Spencer only needed 41 pitches to work his way through the first three innings. Kendall and Moore each allowed six hits, while they each struck out one.

The Huskies scheduled opponent, the 5A Willamette Wolverines, bowed out early Friday, leaving North Marion without a game on the day. However, the amazing day in terms of weather could not be wasted, and a game was formed with the 6A Reynolds Raiders.

North Marion saw their record fall to 1-1 after the loss. Next up is a doubleheader in Astoria with the Fighting Fishermen, the reigning 4A State Champions. Game 1 of the twin bill begins at noon, with an estimated start time of 2:30 for Game 2.
