North Marion can't get anything going in loss to Astoria

ASTORIA, Ore. - Following a solid victory in game one of the doubleheader, the Huskies offense went stagnant in game two, where the Fishermen shut out North Marion 10-0 in five innings.

Offensively, things did not open up well for the Huskies, but Tristan Wampole, who started on the mound, did a fine job in the first inning defensively. He struck out the first two Astoria batters and got out of the first inning with just a single base hit given up.

Things continued running smoothly for the Huskies defense as they recorded the first two outs of the second inning with no trouble, however, retiring Astoria batters became a huge problem from that point on and before they knew it, the Huskies found themselves down 6-0 through just two innings. Two runs scored on a dropped fly ball, which would have ended the inning, deeming all further runs unearned. Another run scored on a missed catch in the infield, and yet another scored on a wild pitch. The culmination of all this trouble led the Huskies to debut Freshman Emry Patterson on the mound, and he finally recorded the third Huskies out for the second inning.

Astoria piled on three more runs in the third inning, coming off of four base hits and another North Marion error. The Fishermen held a 9-0 lead through three.

Several reserves were brought in throughout the later innings in attempts to solidify the Huskies defense. That was successfully accomplished, as Astoria was held silent for a few innings.

One of the top pitchers in the state, Conor Harber, was placed upon the mound for Astoria and he did look quite strong, striking out all three batters that he faced. Not only did he play well in his inning of work on the mound, Harber was clutch all day long, finishing the day six-for-seven.

Zach Williamson and Brandan Hopper marked the only two hits for North Marion, while Astoria tallied ten. Those two base hits for the Huskies were the only two baserunners that North Marion could muster. Wampole was handed the loss, and the Huskies as a team fell to 2-2 after Saturday's doubleheader.

Next up the Huskies will host the annual Spring Break Tournament, where the Dayton Pirates, the Pleasant Hill Billies, and the Siuslaw Vikings will all frequent Bob Brack Stadium throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. There are three games on each of those days with scheduled games at 12, 3, and 6. North Marion is set for a noon game on Tuesday with Siuslaw, and a 3PM game vs. Dayton and a 6PM game vs. Pleasant Hill on Wednesday. Be sure to swing by the field and various points throughout the day to catch some great baseball action. And of course don't miss the Huskies involement in the tournament either.
