Sloppy fielding leads to first loss in rain-shortened contest

AURORA - A sloppy performance out of the North Marion defense allowed Scappoose to score just two earned runs and still come away with the victory Tuesday afternoon from Bob Brack Stadium. The Indians scored eight runs - but six of them were off of Huskies' errors. The weather only allowed the game to last five innings, but in that time span North Marion accumulated seven errors - two more than any game last season.

The Huskies' bats did their part to attempt to compensate for the struggling defense, but six runs and five hits didn't do the trick. Junior Kyle Williamson and Freshman Josiah Ramon each had two hits to credit to his name - desperately trying to keep the Huskies in the game.

North Marion went down 3-0 but used five runs in the first two innings to take a 5-4 lead. But a critical fourth-inning error allowed Scappoose to crawl back on top and gain a lead they would never relinquish.

Wyatt Moore and Brock Breshears both threw for North Marion on the day. Moore went four innings and allowed six hits and seven runs, however, only two of those seven were earned. Breshears threw one inning of hitless relief.

North Marion looks forward to Thursday for the next scheduled game, where they will try to rid their mouths of the bad taste from the first loss of the 2013 campaign. The game is scheduled for 5:00pm from Bob Brack Stadium and will end the four game season-opening homestand.
