AURORA - With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, it was a 2-1 game. However, North Marion scored four runs aided by some Gladiator miscues as the Huskies went on to defeat Gladstone 6-1 from Bob Brack Stadium Tuesday. A culmination of six Husky hits and four Gladstone errors led to six runs for North Marion.
The Huskies (9-6, 5-0) posted two early runs on the Gladiators (7-7, 3-2). Brock Breshears opened up the contest drawing a walk before Kyle Williamson singled to put runners on first and third. Tristan Wampole drove in the first run on a sac-fly to center field. Wyatt Moore put a ball in play and reached on a base hit; an error on the play allowed Williamson to score.
Breshears (6-0, 0.64) was firing on all cylinders in the first few innings, as he retired nine of the first ten Gladiators' batsmen in order including a string of five consecutive strikeouts.
Gladstone's only run came in the fourth inning as back-to-back base hits allowed a run to come in on a fielder's choice.
With the North Marion lead cut down to one, the Huskies quickly countered with an inning that featured four runs, three hits, and two Gladstone errors. Shane McKillip, Breshears, and Williamson all recorded base hits with two outs in the inning, and Barrell and Emry Patterson both put balls in play that forced Gladiator errors. After taking the 6-1 lead, the Huskies cruised through the final few innings led by Breshears on the mound.
Brock used under 80 pitches to close out another complete game victory. Breshears fanned eight batters - his highest stikeout total of the season - allowed six hits, and walked no one.
Shane McKillip and Kyle Williamson led the Huskies' offense with two hits and a run scored each. Williamson has gone 6-for-9 in the last three games.
The Huskies and Gladiators will meet up again on Thursday for a 5:00pm matchup.
