AURORA - North Marion picked up its first win of the 2015 campaign in a rain-shortened contest on Friday afternoon. The Huskies scored seven times in the second inning - when the rain was at its worst - to defeat Hudson's Bay (WA) 7-5.

The Huskies improved to 1-2 while the visiting Eagles fell to 1-2 including an 0-2 record vs. Oregon schools.

Hudson's Bay out-hit North Marion 8-4 but walked seven batters and committed four errors on the day.

The Eagles used three hits to plate three runs in the top of the second and lead North Marion 3-0. The Huskies, however, responded in the bottom of the frame. All seven of North Marion's runs, three of its four hits, all four Hudson's Bay errors, and four of its seven walks came in the inning.

Jordan Kendall led off the second with a double before hit batsmen, defensive errors, walks, and more plagued the Eagles. A 21-minute rain delay did not help Hudson's Bay's cause either. Later hits in the inning by Nat Barrell and Andy Schmitz added to the damage. The Huskies emerged from the inning with a 7-3 lead, which they would sustain through the fifth and final inning.

Hudson's Bay crawled its way within two runs and was threatening in the top of the fifth. But a play at the plate retired a runner attempting to advance on a pitch in the dirt, essentially ending the Eagles hope at a fifth-inning rally.

After the conclusion of the top of the fifth, the umpires ruled that the field was unplayable and ended the game.

Hunter Beachy - who relieved Kendall in the third inning - recorded the win after limiting Hudson's Bay to one hit and one unearned run. Beachy struck out four.

The Huskies now make their annual trip to Tigard High School for a game with the 6A Tigers on Saturday at 1:30pm.
