AURORA - The Huskies plated five runs in the first two innings en route to a 7-3 victory over the league-leading Newport Cubs on Wednesday at Bob Brack Stadium.

North Marion entered Wednesday's matchup with opponents posting double-digit run totals in three of the last four games. The Huskies surrendered 11 runs to the Cubs on Monday. However, Huskies starter Hunter Beachy limited Newport to just three runs on eight hits, four strikeouts and two walks.

Beachy improved to 2-3 on the year and saw his ERA drop to 6.39.

Newport struck first in the opening inning, using three hits and a North Marion error to jump out to a 2-0 edge.

The Huskies mirrored Newport's efforts with two runs off of three hits in the home-half of the first, yielding a 2-2 tie after an inning.

Beachy and the Huskies defense retired 10 of 13 batters beginning in the second inning, keeping the Cubs off of the scoreboard again until the sixth.

North Marion's biggest run output came in the second inning where the home team scored three times on five hits. Andy Schmitz, Shane McKillip, and Jordan Kendall all notched run-scoring hits for the Huskies who grabbed a three-run lead early on.

The Huskies tagged Newport's starting pitcher for five runs on six hits, chasing him out of the game in the second inning.

North Marion added insurance runs in the fourth on a Beachy sac fly and in the fifth on an Emry Patterson single.

Beachy had his most effective outing of the season, picking up his first complete game win of 2015. The senior right-hander took 106 pitches to secure the victory.

Four Huskies recorded multi-hit days highlighted by Patterson's three.

The Huskies return to Bob Brack Stadium on Friday afternoon for a 3:30pm contest with Cascade. North Marion and Cascade are tied for second place in the Oregon West Conference standings.
